ANAND : MILK CAPITAL OF INDIA

101km from the state capital Gandhinagar is the 'Milk Capital of India', Anand. It is the administrative centre of Anand District and is administered by Anand Municipality. It is the part of the region 'Charotar'.

Anand has seen rapid economic growth along the Anand Vallabh Vidya Nagar and Karamsad road belt and is on track on becoming a Municipal Corporation including various peripheral villages like Bakrol, Chikhodra, Karamsad, Lambhvel, Mogri, V. V Nagar and 20 others.

Anand is famous for its Amul Dairy and its milk revolution. Amul (Anand Milk Union Limited) is the largest food brand in India and the world's largest pouched milk brand. Amul had an annual turnover of US $1050 million in 2006-07. It has also entered overseas markets such as Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Mauratius, Singapore, few South African countries, USA, UAE and has plans for entering the markets of Japan and Sri Lanka.

This city hosts the National Dairy Development Board of India and Anand Agricultural University. Another well-known product of the city is Vallabh Vidhyanagar and Karamsad, an educational suburb of Anand.

It is a railway Junction and a Broad Gauge Line from here runs to Godhra, covering Dakor, a major Hindu pilgrimage en route. MEMUs Main Line Multiple Units ply on this route and also one or two regular passenger trains. It also has a branch line to Khambat also called Cambay. DMUs Diesel Multiple Units ply on the route as it is not electrified yet. Anand Railway Station has 5 platforms.1,2,3,5 are on main line and no. 4 on the branch line to Godhra. A new platform is in construction on the branch to Ahemdabad from the Godhra line forming a triangle. The National express highway from Ahmedabad toVadodara also passes through Anand. Interesting places to visit in and near Anand are Swaminarayan Mandir, Amul Dairy Museum, Air Manzil, Khapra Zaveri Palace, Flo Art Gallery, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Veer Vithalbhai Patel Memorial etc..
